What are air-dried bones?
Air-dried bones are animal bones (usually ostrich, beef, buffalo, or lamb) that have been slowly dried to remove moisture rather than cooked or heavily processed
Air drying:
Keeps flavour and nutrients intact
No chemical treatments
Normally single source protein
They’re different from cooked bones, which are more brittle
Benefits of air-dried bones
Minimal processing = chemical free
Good for dental health (scrapes plaque)
Long-lasting mental stimulation
High in protein and nutrients
Air-drying also helps reduce splintering risk compared to cooked bones
Risks you NEED to know - Even though they’re “natural”, they still have risks:
Tooth damage - Hard bones (especially marrow/leg bones) can crack teeth
Splintering (rare but possible) - Air-dried reduces it, but bones can still break—especially under heavy chewing.
Choking hazard - small pieces or broken chunks can be swallowed
Digestive issues - Hard bone fragments don’t digest well and can cause blockages
Moon bones (beef cartilage) not bone at all!
Safety:
Always supervise chewing
Remove when it gets small enough to swallow
Limit chewing time (10–20 mins sessions)
Provide fresh water
Choose the right size for your dog
